🎙️ AI in Education—Through the Eyes of Our Students

This week, our very own Lucas Poole, Ella Paul, Dylan Daugherty, Susan Babick, and Gillian Hresko represented Mount Pleasant Area School District in a virtual interview with Hilary Danailova, Features Editor for City & State PA, a publication that covers Pennsylvania politics and policy. Joining them were Mr. Greene and Mr. Svidron, who provided powerful insights into how AI is shaping teaching and learning.

The article will feature three key ideas:
💡 How students use AI in their lives
⚠️ The potential dangers they see
📚 How teachers are approaching AI in the classroom

We’re proud of our Vikings for representing our district with thoughtfulness, curiosity, and confidence as they discussed one of the most important topics shaping the future of education and work. 💙❤️

📚 What a Great Day at Norvelt!

On November 3, 2025, our Reading Specialists hosted a Make & Take Parent Workshop — and it was a huge success! 🙌 Parents created fun reading activities to use at home, tried out a DIBELS test just like their children do, met our amazing therapy dog 🐶 Hoyt, and enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch together 🍕❤️

We loved hearing your feedback! Here’s what some parents said:
💬 “The teacher was fantastic — and the pizza was great too!”
💬 “I loved getting to see what my child learns and eating lunch together.”
💬 “Being able to experience a DIBELS test myself was eye-opening.”
💬 “The therapy dog was such a wonderful addition!”
💬 “The materials and games we made were so helpful — I can’t wait to use them at home.”

👏 Kudos to our amazing Title I teachers for coordinating this event and making it such an engaging and informative experience for families.

A big thank-you to all the families who came out to learn, laugh, and spend time with us.
✨ Check out some of the highlights below!

🥫💙 Our students showed incredible teamwork and compassion as they helped carry in supplies from the food bank to prepare for our first Backpack Program delivery!! 🎒✨

The Backpack Program provides food for students in need, and our amazing student volunteers also help bag the food before it’s distributed. 🛍️

We’re so proud of their hard work, kindness, and dedication to supporting our school community! 💪❤️ #VikingPride #CommunityStrong #ServiceWithHeart

🚀 Cosmic Chaos in the Classroom! 👽✨ Today our students at Ramsay Elementary participated in an exciting and immersive learning experience! When they walked into the classroom, they discovered an alien crash site and immediately jumped into investigation mode. Students were split into squadrons and worked together to analyze each piece of mysterious debris. Every clue led to a new challenge they had to solve as a team — all while practicing real-world life skills such as counting coins and making exact amounts of money. 💰🪙 It was incredible watching their curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills shine. 🌟 Mission accomplished, cadets — the galaxy is safe thanks to you! 🌌🛸

🐛🍎 “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” came to Donegal Elementary! 🍓🧁

Students had a deliciously fun day as our Food Service & Nutrition team, led by Patrick Rulon-Miller and The Nutrition Group, transformed lunchtime into a themed celebration inspired by the beloved Eric Carle classic.

A special shoutout to Janice Zelmore and Teresa Miller for their incredible creativity and effort in bringing this event to life! 🌟 Their extra touches and fresh ideas always take Donegal events to the next level. 👏

From colorful fruits and veggies to imaginative displays, the cafeteria was alive with excitement and healthy choices! 🌈🥕🍉

🇺🇸🕊️ A Day to Remember at the Flight 93 National Memorial 🕊️🇺🇸

Today, our students traveled to Shanksville, PA to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial — a powerful reminder of courage, unity, and heroism. ❤️🤍💙

📸 Students had a great time exploring the memorial grounds, learning about the events of September 11, 2001, and reflecting on the incredible bravery of the passengers and crew aboard Flight 93.

Being able to visit such an important historic site so close to home made the experience especially meaningful. 🚌✨

We’re so proud of how respectful, curious, and engaged our students were during today’s visit — a day filled with learning, reflection, and gratitude. 🌟

🌿🐝 STEELS Science in Action! 🌸🔬

This week, our 4th grade students were visited by Dr. Paula Purnell from the Westmoreland Land Trust for a STEELS-aligned nature workshop titled “Bugs & Buds: Life in a Pollinator Garden.”

💡 STEELS stands for Science, Technology & Engineering, Environmental Literacy, and Sustainability — Pennsylvania’s new science standards designed to inspire inquiry, discovery, and real-world problem solving.

🌼 Through interactive activities using field guides, insects encased in resin, live flowers, and digital microscopes, students explored:
🪲 The relationship between bugs and buds
🔎 Taxonomy and entomology
🌸 The structure of flowering plants
🌍 And the vital connections between insects and plants in our ecosystems!

This hands-on learning experience truly brought science to life — connecting classroom learning to the natural world around us. 🌿✨
