Our AP Chemistry students, led by Mrs. Ovitsky, spent the day at Saint Vincent College participating in a College in High School laboratory experience.
During the visit, students conducted an organic chemistry distillation, isolating cinnamon and clove oils — an opportunity to apply advanced lab techniques in a collegiate setting. 🔬
We appreciate Saint Vincent College for providing this high-level learning experience and commend our students for their professionalism and engagement throughout the day. 🌿📘

Our students in Mrs. Yackovich’s classroom took part in an important hands-on lesson about the dangers of drinking and driving. 🚫🍺🚗
Using simulation goggles designed to mimic the effects of impairment, students conducted sample sobriety checks to experience how coordination, judgment, and reaction time can be impacted.
This interactive activity sparked meaningful discussion and helped students better understand the real-world risks—and the importance of making safe, responsible choices.
Proud of our Vikings for engaging in learning that truly makes a difference. 💙❤️

🌱🔬 Real-World Biology in Action!
Our Honors Biology students spent the day diving into hands-on science experiences — from grip strength testing and an EKG investigation to a field-based stream study titled “Why’s That Bug in the Water?” 🧪🌊
Students also had the opportunity to hear from a panel of current Saint Vincent College science majors, gaining valuable insight into college pathways and STEM careers. Lunch in the Community Center rounded out the visit with a true campus-life experience.
What a great day of learning, exploring, and discovering! 🌟📚🧬

🐾 A Paws-itively Wonderful Day in Mrs. Ber’s 8th Grade ELA Class! 📚💙
Our 8th grade ELA students welcomed Hoyt, a certified therapy dog, and Wolfly, an adorable puppy in training. Students had the chance to interact with both dogs, learn about their roles in therapeutic and educational settings, and even read aloud to Hoyt, creating a calm, supportive space to practice literacy skills.
This experience offered meaningful social-emotional benefits and a joyful, engaging addition to our ELA curriculum. 🐶✨
Thank you to Hoyt, Wolfly, and their wonderful handlers for bringing so many smiles to our classroom! 💛📖

The Ship-A-Chip Project has officially come full circle! 🚀 Earlier this month, fifth-grade engineers in Mrs. David’s and Mrs. Dreistadt’s classes shipped their carefully designed Pringle-protecting packages to Bellwood-Antis Elementary. Using the full Engineering Design Process—and measuring the mass and volume of every design—they eagerly awaited the big question: Would their Pringle arrive whole, slightly cracked, or reduced to Pringle dust? 🤣
Students had the exciting opportunity to watch their packages opened live and see firsthand how well their engineering solutions survived transport. Afterward, teams analyzed their results, reflected on improvements for future designs, and calculated their final efficiency score (intactness score ÷ mass × volume).
A powerful blend of creativity, problem-solving, and real-world STEM learning! 🔧📦✨

🌍 Global Learning for a Local Workforce! 🌍
We are incredibly proud of teachers Colleen Minerd, Will Myers, Becca Richter, and Megan Pierce, who recently participated in the Global Learning for a Local Workforce professional development series. This experience brought together middle and high school educators committed to strengthening career-connected learning and future readiness for students.
As part of their district project, our team identified 32 local businesses that operate on a global scale. Their next step? Reaching out to these companies to organize an exciting event where students can:
✨ Visit businesses that align with their interests
✨ Explore real-world career pathways
✨ Learn firsthand about the diverse opportunities available in today’s global economy
We’re grateful for their leadership and vision as they work to expand meaningful, career-connected learning experiences for our students. 🚀💼🌐

What an inspiring day for our students!! Ms. Ovitsky took eight junior girls to Westinghouse for Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, where they participated in a hands-on robotics activity and even suited up like nuclear engineers.
The girls showed incredible curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored new possibilities in STEM. 🚀🔧👩🔬
