The School District

Four school buildings in the district facilitate a student enrollment of approximately 2,100 in grades K-12. 

The district offers comprehensive programs providing college preparatory, business, general and vocational/technical courses, which prepare students for a meaningful and productive adult life. The district is committed to ongoing efforts directed toward providing a strong academic program. An experienced and highly qualified faculty, and the innovative and responsive leadership of the administrators and school board, enable the district to continually succeed at this goal.

Fully accredited by the Middle States Association for Secondary Schools, the district enjoys an outstanding reputation throughout the public school system of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Community

Mount Pleasant Area School District is located in the south central part of Westmoreland County, in southwestern Pennsylvania. The district is located approximately 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and 12 miles south of Greensburg. The district encompasses 106 square miles and had a 2010 U.S. Census population of 18,488. The district is primarily a rural area comprised of the boroughs of Donegal and Mount Pleasant and the townships of Donegal and Mount Pleasant. The major occupations of residents are in health care, retail, professional, legal, accounting and construction. Many of our residents are also self-employed.

Shopping areas, hospitals, public libraries and churches of most denominations are located within the district or in nearby towns. Residents are only a short ride from major retail shopping areas along Route 819, Route 30 East & West, and in the Westmoreland mall. Recreational facilities found in or near the community include golf courses, ball fields, skiing, water sports, theater arts and diverse restaurants. In addition, nearby Pittsburgh provides residents the opportunity to attend Pittsburgh Penguins professional hockey, Pittsburgh Pirates professional baseball and Pittsburgh Steelers professional football games.

Educational institutions such as Westmoreland County Community College; Carlow, Chatham, LaRoche, Point Park, St. Vincent and Seton Hill colleges, as well as California University and the University of Pittsburgh with a branch campus in Greensburg, offer not only educational opportunities but, cultural and athletic events.
