Homeless Information

McKinney-Vento Act
Pennsylvania's Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness Program was established to make sure homeless youth have access to a free and appropriate public education while removing barriers that homeless children face.  Its goal is to have the educational process continue as uninterrupted as possible while the children are in homeless situations.  The children are also entitled to free and reduced lunch while enrolled in school.  If you are aware that a student is experiencing homelessness, please contact the District Liaison, Mrs. Cassie Moorhead, at 724.547.4100, Ext. 4700.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
McKinney-Vento is the primary piece of federal legislation dealing with the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness in U.S. public schools.  It was reauthorized as Title X, Part C, of the No Child Left Behind Act in January 2002.  Download the full text of the Act.
